Pro-Loco Winner @ The St Duthac Book & Arts Festival

Coral Allan

The St Duthac Book and Arts Festival 2023 held it's first Pro-Loco event between Friday 15th and Sunday 17th September. Artists of all abilities were invited to the beautifully inspiring seaside village of Portmahomack to create a piece of art.

The submitted pieces of art - which were anonymised - were displayed and the public were invited to vote for their favourite piece, where the artist with the most votes would win £150.

Sheelagh Petrie a local artist and leader of an art group in the Seaboard Centre, Balintore received the most votes for her piece. Sheelagh said “I did five pencil sketches from different viewpoints. I decided that the Rockfield viewpoint looking down to the slipway and salmon bothy was the best. I painted it in oils on a board with a short ground and used a quick drying oil paint medium. I was blessed with lovely weather on all three days. I enjoyed it so much that I intend to try and paint outside as much as possible even through the winter.”
